Close down all illegal wildlife sales in Indonesia. The wildlife belongs in the wild. Indonesian Law No. 5/1990 says: Every person who kill, capture, keep protected species (alive or dead) can be sentenced to five years in jail and fine of IDR100 million (US$7,400.00).

Scorpion Foundation is a non-governmental organization established on 12th of May 2015, The foundation became active in July 2015, and was officially registered at the Ministry of Legal and Human Rights on 3rd of August 2015 (Reg #AHU-0010503.AH.01.04.2015) Since then, it has become the leading Indonesian NGO group tackling the rampant illegal wildlife trade currently plaguing our country.

We conduct investigations into the wildlife trade on a weekly, sometimes daily basis. Our work takes us all over Sumatra, Java, and Bali. Our aim is to extend it much wider.

The photos and reports collected by investigators are then sent to our government with a request for them to take action.

Vision

Protection of wildlife for future generations through increased awareness and improved animal welfare.

Mission

SCORPION will assist the Indonesian government in the prevention of the extinction of species in the following ways: monitoring the trade of protected and endangered species investigating poaching and illegal wildlife petting; supporting law enforcement efforts in eradication of wildlife crimes.

SCORPION will continue with, and expand upon our work to raise the welfare standards of Indonesian zoos. This includes the acceptance and introduction of the Five Freedoms for Captive Wildlife as follows:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst by providing ready access to fresh water and a nutririous diet to maintain full health and vigour.

2 Freedom from discomfort…by providing appropriate environments including shelter and comfortable resting areas.

3 Freedom from pain, injury or disease: by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.

4 Freedom to express normal behavior: by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal’s own species.

5 Freedom from fear and distress: by ensuring provision of conditions and treatment which avoid and alleviate mental suffering.

If you would like to help us please write to us at info@scorpionmonitor.org and mention what it is you are willing to do. We need a lot of help from Sumatra to Papua.

We especially want to hear from anyone who sees wildlife being sold at the roadside or in markets anywhere in Indonesia. Please take photos and send them to us with a brief note of the place and date taken.

Thank you for caring about Indonesia’s wildlife.
