Seven years ago, a Siamang gibbon was
captured in Batang Toru Forest complex, which is also the habitat of Tapanuli
orangutans. Since then, this Siamang gibbon, which was named Mala, was kept
illegally in Rantau Prapat for 6 years. One
year ago the owner in Rantau Prapat was unable to continue feeding this animal.
So, he gave it to his friend Muhammad Yani. Scorpion investigator found Mala
one week ago and reported it to the Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA) in North
On Friday, 16th of March 2018, BBKSDA and Scorpion rescued Mala from the illegal owner and brought her to Bodhi Cita rescue centre in Barumun, Sumatra for medical checkup and training so that she can survive when she is returned back in the wild.
